Trip to Higeta indigo workshop in Mashiko

“Bitter sweet trip to the ancient Higeta Indigo workshop in Mashiko today. 9th generation Master Dyer Mr Tadashi Higeta sadly passed away in January leaving the future of the workshop uncertain. The extraordinary building will be protected but without the activity of tending to and using the dye vats, the meaning, the reason for being, the knowledge of the place is lost. I sincerely hope a solution is found and the art of indigo dyeing will continue here”.
